Standard Calibration

Standard Calibration

This calibration is mainly for

  • the very first time of measurement.
  • installing a brand new iPin Spatial Ruler.
  • re-installing iPin Ruler App.
  • large errors (for example: error > +/- 3% when measuring distance below 3 m range)

Principle of calibration:

  • The calibration is done by taking 2 pictures of the same object with known size at different heights (roughly about 30cm and about 130cm).

Steps of Calibration:

1.) Select a standard reference object (A4, Letter or other known size paper); here we use A4 paper as an example.

2.) Place the paper on a flat ground without curl at its edges.

3.) Choose "Cali / Standard / A4". --> Laser light ON!

4.) Hold your iPhone roughly about 30cm high over the paper. Adjust the camera so that the paper becomes about the size of the green dash rectangle.

5.) Tap the laser spot on the screen, then you will see the laser spot enclosed by the green focus frame. Meanwhile, make sure the image is in focus. Tap "Measure" button.

6.) Adjust the iPhone's level to within +/- 1.0 degree by moving the "bubble" to the center of the leveler. Once it achieved, the camera will automatically take a picture.

7.) After the shot, make sure the App has correctly recognized the laser spot: Laser spot is at the center of the "Recognition Circle Cross-hair".

*** If Laser spot is not at center of the crosshair, then move the spot to the center manually.

8.) Move both ends of the reference line to both upper corners of the paper. Using the magnifier to precisely adjust the corners to the cross-hair center. Then tap "Measure".

9.) Lift the iPhone to roughly about 130 cm (eg. stand up, and hold the iPhone about the height between chest and shoulder. Let the paper is about the same size of green dash rectangle.

14.) Standard calibration is completed.
15.) Do not touch or turn the laser head until you finish all measurement works.

**Please note:

(1) If the magnifier sub-screen covers the corner of object, simply drag it to somewhere else by 2 fingers.

(2) To turn off the magnifier, just double-click the sub-screen by single finger.
